For Tots Is Our Time To Give Back!
At
the December 10 Meeting at the Scottish Rite Cathedral,
remember to bring that special gift to
give to a special
child. Representatives from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve
will be on hand at the meeting to receive your gifts and
answer any questions about the organization. Toys for Tots
is a wonderful giving organization that helps put smiles
on faces and glows in hearts of children that don’t
get the extras for the holidays. They started in 1947 with
the goal of "bringing the joys of Christmas to America's
needy children." The Foundation is now ranked No.
289 in the 2001 "Philanthropy 400" and growing
strong. Let's make a child’s holidays one to remember
by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to the meeting on the Dec.
10.

Board
Member Profile
Kay Krober, ISES Secretary
Kay Krober is the owner of Kay Krober Bridal Consultants
and has been planning and coordinating weddings and
parties for clients since 1992. Kay is recognized
as an expert wedding planner, often interviewed for
local and national publications and television. She
has conducted seminars for hotel catering executives,
sororities, bridal fairs and book shops. Kay Krober
weddings were selected for five page feature articles
in Elegant Bride magazine in Spring 1997 and Winter
2000. Kay is a member of the Association of Bridal
Consultants, regularly attending seminars and the
annual Business of Brides Conference. She has attended
Special Event in Las Vegas, Phoenix and Orlando. "I
once read a quote that said, 'You are only as good
as what you have been exposed to, so expose yourself
to as much of the world as possible.' Special Event
is great exposure to what is the newest, best and
most wonderful for my clients. I am looking forward
to Special Event in LasVegas in January! If you can
make only one conference, it should be Special Event."
Kay
offers a wide range of services including full service
event design, planning and management, partial
planning
service for the "do-it-yourself" bride who wants
help as she selects locations and vendors, or wedding day
coordination for the bride who waits until the last minute
to cry for help.
In
addition to planning and coordinating, Kay offers her
clients the convenience of shopping for
invitations, programs,
place cards, menus, favors, gifts and accessories in her
studio. Offering over 50 albums of invitations or custom
design, Kay has the largest selection from which to choose. "I
love searching the Gift and Accessory markets in Chicago
and Atlanta or the National Stationery Show in NY for fabulous
papers, invitations, gifts and accessories for my clients'
events. It is a wonderful excuse for travel to some great
cities, too!"
Kay
is a lifelong resident of Indianapolis. She works by
appointment from a studio in her home in
Carmel, fondly
referred to as the "shrine to the bride" by family.
Kay holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature
and Elementary Education and a Master of Science degree
in Early Childhood. She is retired from teaching Kindergarten
for many years.
"The
same skill set required for success in Kindergarten teaching
is necessary for working with
brides ... flexibility, patience, creativity, and organization,"
Krober said. "It was an easy transition from the classroom
to the ballroom." Kay
is married, the mother of two daughters and one son who
are married and have presented her with
seven grandchildren.
Daughter Lauri assists in the office and Lisa is a wedding
day coordinator for double booked weekends or when Kay
is not available. She has three additional assistants,
all family, for wedding day. "It is a family business.
Working with my daughters who love weddings and brides
is wonderful."
"When
clients ask how I began in the wedding business, I show
them a photo of the children
in my neighborhood
dressed in my piano recital dresses for a wedding," Krober
said "I was
10-years-old and directing weddings. I had
every bride
doll. My mother is the best at giving a party and taught
me how to entertain guests. She is an etiquette expert.
She loves beautiful things, her table settings are perfect.
At 83, she still sets a lovely table with china and linen
three times a day and continues to entertain. I think I
was born for this! I have been so fortunate to have two
careers that I love, teaching and wedding planning. Many
people never find one."
"Membership
in ISES was one of my first steps in professionalizing
my business after retiring from teaching," she said.
"I enjoy the association and networking with the best
professionals
in the city. I heard John Daly speak on "giving back" being
a measure of success in any field. Participation on the
ISES board is one of my efforts to give to an industry
that has given so much to me."
