• Dave Strantz, ISES Indiana VP of Communications, was awarded the 2006 International Association of Business Communicators’ “President's Award” for his contributions as IABC Indianapolis Vice President of Community Outreach and Educational Involvement.

Members Share Experience from "The Special Event" in Los Angeles

From “Diva Bling,” to the tradeshow floor, to the elegance of The Gala Awards at The Shrine Auditorium, The Special Event 2007 did not disappoint. We (Jamee Bryant, “Setting the Mood” and Leslie Zimmerman, “Impact Group, Inc.”) had never attended an event like this before.

The educational classes were, for the most part, informative and inspiring. They also left us with the realization of how evolved our event industry is in Indianapolis, by comparison to other areas. On the flip side, after seeing many photos of brilliant/over the top events, we found ourselves wishing for million dollar budgets.

The evening events were spectacular…filled with beautiful décor and lighting, clever themes, talented entertainment, tasty food, and, yes, cocktails. Some of our favorite things were a “living” tree, drag queen dancers, “living” fountains, Eartha Kitt’s performance, an appetizer served in a glass slipper, and an awards show that rivaled The Academy Awards.

We spent at least eight hours on the tradeshow floor, picking up catalogs and chatting with a variety of vendors. We loved that so many people were willing to share ideas, offer suggestions, and act as mentors to each other by discussing their successes…and failures.

While neither of us is planning a move to the Hollywood Hills, we really enjoyed The Special Event 2007 in LA, and are already looking forward to 2008’s in Atlanta!

Crowne Plaza Hotel at Historic Union Station

I have been the Director of Catering for the Crowne Plaza Hotel at Historic Union Station, Indianapolis Downtown for one year. In the past year, I have really enjoyed working with planners and assisting with their special events and meetings. Before my current position, I was in hotel sales for almost seven years - most recently as the Director of Sales for the Homewood Suites by Hilton. While I do enjoy sales, my true passion is for meetings and special events. I have been married to the most wonderful man for 3 years, and we live in Brownsburg with our little Maltese, Jack.

Crowne Plaza Hotel Union Station offers over 57,000 square feet of meeting and event space. Meetings from 10 – 1000, we can accommodate all sizes and all budgets. The Grand Hall and Illinois Street Ballroom at Union Station are perfect for weddings and galas, while our Executive Boardroom is just right for corporate meetings.

Being a member of ISES is important to me for all of the benefits it provides. From the networking and educational opportunities to getting new ideas from the monthly meetings. I am excited about new opportunities and relationships within ISES, and want to get more involved with the organization.
