ISES Eventworld 2005 Recap

ISES EventWorld takes Hollywood. Six members of the Indiana chapter of ISES spent time in Hollywood at the 2005 EventWorld Conference. This annual conference is a great way to continue your professional development with three days of educational sessions, network with ISES members from around the world and attend some really great parties.

Highlights included the Midwest Region winning The Region of the Year award, appearances by "W" and Austin Powers (who was later seen partying with Indiana chapter members), a party at the old Max Factor building and Hollywood Museum, a party at a prop house in Los Angeles, and the unveiling of the new ISES logo.

Make plans for next year now! The location is Hawaii!!! Details to follow soon.

If you missed out on this conference, several of the speakers that were in LA will be presenting at our own Education Conference in November. We’ll see you there!

Member Spotlight

Rukiya Bey is a self–described “Army brat” who has lived in numerous places such as Virginia, North Carolina and Germany.

After attending Indiana State University, she received several job opportunities which allowed her to nurture her event planning interests and talents.

She worked for the NCAA in the Championships department where she coordinated tournaments for ten different sports.

Shortly thereafter, she became the athletic event manager for Butler University. Then, she accepted a position at the RCA Tennis Championships as the marketing coordinator where she was responsible for coordinating and promoting the special events for the week-long tournament.

Rukiya is currently employed as the promotion coordinator for WISH-TV. One of her responsibilities includes coordinating local casting calls for CBS shows such as “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race”.

Her community involvement with various civic organizations has also allowed her the opportunity to develop her passion of event planning. She currently serves as secretary of the Urban League of Young Professionals and the Pep Rally committee chair for the Circle City Classic.

Her passion has motivated her to foster Events Envisioned, LLC., an event planning company specializing in coordinating corporate events. A work in progress, she anticipates her new business venture will keep her busy along with caring for her 4-year-old son named Kyran.

ISES Board Update

At the September meeting the new ISES logo was unveiled and each chapter will be receiving a branding kit in September. ISES is also working to unveil a separate logo for each chapter – be on the lookout for the Indiana logo soon. The board also discussed the new date for the Education Conference which will be held on November 16th. Please mark your calendars for this event which will feature great speakers not to be missed. Finally, the board is working with MP Records to update our website to make it more user friendly for our members.

Community Outreach Recap

It is that time of year! We are officially on the hunt for a Non-profit Organization! Every year, ISES selects a local non-profit organization to assist with their fund raising event. Last month, Muscular Dystrophy Family Foundation benefited from ISES support with the Scavenger Hunt 2005. It was a great success and fun for all! You may assist with the selection process for this year’s beneficiary for the Community Outreach Project by forwarding names of non-profit organizations to the committee chair, Lori Fields at ldfields@iupui.edu or 317-278-2136. Thanks for your help in getting the COP off to a great start!
